THE WINES /

On December 8th, we are going for some Marselan wines, the 'it' varietal coming out of Chinese vineyards at the moment. A hybrid cross between Cabernet Sauvignon x Cabernet Grenache grapes - should be interesting. Marselan, developed in 1960s France but not that popular there, could be the future wine-grape of China. Apparently, it fits the growing conditions here, so Hey! we'll give it a go - why not?
But we won't rest on our laurels, because there's way too much to drink. Therefore, we're gonna combine the above with a taste of some medalists from the Ningxia Winemakers Challenge . It's a competition-project that funded selected foreign winemakers to practice their craft in Ningxia Autonomous Region between 2015 - 2017. Their wines are out now.

Ningxia Winemakers Challenge:
48 winemakers from 18 countries, including Argentina, Australia, South Africa and Italy, competed for a total cash prize of CNY700,000.
Their task, having each been paired with a separate Chinese winery - whose facilities were then made available - was simply to make the best wine they could. All winemakers received grapes from the same batch and the Ningxia wineries were allocated by lottery.
